SPOOKY TIME!!!!

Hello all,
It's that time of year again, my favorite time of year actually (well next to christmas). It's Halloween. I loved trick or treating as a kid and get to relive it all over again now with my own kids. And of course, cable tv is great now cause they show all the horror movies (even if they are edited).

That brings me to my question. What is your favorite Horror Movie. Tell me why it is your favorite. And why do you think we go see horror movies. Even if you don't like them, tell me why you think others go see them. And by the way, here's a good scare for you (not for those with a heart condition).

I am not a big horror movie lover, but I do love thrillers for I think the same reason a lot of people love horror movies. One movie that I think would fall into the horror movie/thriller genre that I did love was Gothika with Halley Berry. I remember watching it in theatres with a bunch of girls and I can't remember the last time I heard so much screaming. However, I think this movie along with my other favorite "horror" movies, like all the M. Night Shyamalan films, aren't actually horror movies, but more of supernatural thrillers. I am not a fan of "slasher" films or the gore that I think must be present in order for a film to be considered a horror flick.

I think scary movie lovers find some kind of connection in the adreniline rush that results from the film's suprises and shocks. As I stated before, I find this in more thriller type movies because I do not enjoy the sight of blood on guts on the screen especially when that's all a movie's plot requires to make it a movie. I think that is what separates pyschological and supernatural thrillers from typical horror movies. Horror movies seem to depend more on shocking gore and jumpy suprises to make up the entire interest factor of the movie whereas thrillers depend on both the suprise factor and mystery to create a plot.

My favorite horror movie would have to be the newer versions of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It is my favorite because it offers a sense of real fear. The movie was based off of true events, so things like this can/did happen. I don't really care for vampires and ghosts and other movies like that. If I am going to watch someting scary, I prefer to watch something that could actually happen; because the fact that what happnes on the screen could happen to me is very frightening.

I am not really sure why people love to watch scary movies. It could be for a thrill factor. Some people may love the suspense and adrenaline rush that they get from the movie. I have even heard that some people like to watch horror movies simply becuase of the sense of relief that they get when it is over. As strange as it may sound, I do not even know why I watch them, I simply enjoy them.

I'm not an avid horror film watcher, so my selection is rather limited. The scariest one I've ever seen was "The Ring." It definitely helps when you see the movie in the theatre to get the full effect. On most occasions, horror movies are so poorly made and scripted that it doesn't live up to the "hype" and I lose interest. Whenever I first saw "The Ring", it was on a gloomy, rainy day, and I attended with a few friends. I've realized that you have to watch a horror movie with the right mindset to really be scared. In my opinion, if you want to be scared, you'll get scared.

People like scary movies for the adrenaline I presume. I'm really not sure what other reasons there are because many are poorly put together in my opinion. People just seem to be intrigued about all the potential terrible things that can happen during a weekend in the mountains.

Unfortunately I am a huge horror lover! Books and movies. I say that because most people do not want to join you in watching this type of movie. One of my favorite horror flicks is Thirteen Ghosts. I enjoyed it because it brought in all different flavors of horror and gore while still telling a thrilling story. You followed the primary story but at the same time were taken to a different story represented by each ghost.

I am not really sure why people like horror. Perhaps is it to feel the suspense and surprise not seen in a PG-rated movie. While they know the screen is not real, it is still something they can grab onto and and be scared...feel the adreniline and heart upbeat...to feel something different from everyday feelings.

My favorite Halloween movie is the original movie "The Omen." The things that scare me most about this movie is the music, and how the demons that are protected Damien look evil, and the woman who killed herself on the roof; eyes were bucked, and she looked crazy. I also like when Damien could not go into the church because he is the devil child; the music is intense and they are showing him beating his mother. This movie scares me everytime I see it because even though Damien is supposed to be a little boy, he looks scary. The music in the movie makes it most horrific for me, and everytime I watch I get scared of demons and the devil.

I join my peers in saying that I am not a horror movie fan. Many of them are gorey and disgusting. Personally I have noticed that the plot for many of these films is very predictable and uninterseting. Many rely on the next person's gastly demise to keep the story moving.
However, I would also have to agree that the reason these movies are appealing to those who enjoy them is because of the adrenaline rush that is associated with the scare. The other main reason that they are enjoyed is because the plot is so ridiculous that it is humorous to watch. My most recent horror film I saw was "Prom Night" with some of my cousins. The movie was very funny.

I would have to say my favorite horror movie is “The Silence of the Lambs.” I like the film because it has many elements to keep you in the story from the suspense, riddles, and the characters. Anthony Hopkins has to be the best actor especially for this movie. Who would have every guessed what he did to escape prison? It puts you in the characters shoes and lets you feel like you are part of the story.

I think people are drawn to horror movies for several reasons. It is a chance to be scared to death without actually getting hurt for one. It holds the viewers attention by keeping them in suspense and keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. The best part is when you keep waiting for the loud thump and when you least expect it, it shakes the whole building.

I would say that I am not a fan of horror movies, but it really depends on the movie. I can't watch things with demons and satanic stuff. It's too real for comfort, and I'll have nightmares. I do love thriller type movies. I loved the movie Signs.

People watch horror movies for the adrenaline rush. Guys probably take girls to those movies so they'll get scared, scream, and cuddle closer to them. =) Just the apprehension of watching a scary movie gets the heart pumping faster. A person can go to the movie and be scared out of their mind because they know it's a movie, and when it's over, they can get up and go home...safely. It never occurs to anyone that some type of horror could ever really happen to them. If so, then the movie wouldn't be quite as appealing. Some horror is okay..but movies like The Hills Have Eyes is just plain sick, and so is the person that thought it up. I had to cut it off within the first 30 minutes because I was so disturbed and distraught.

I like scary movies. I don't have one in particular that is my favorite. Now a days there are not many movies made that just absolutely terrify you. They all seem to be more of a mystery rather than something that will make you sleep with all the lights in the house on. The thrill behind a scary movie in my opinion is just that a thrill. These are things that you will not see any everyday life.

My favorite horror movie is Halloween. This is my favorite horror movie because this is a one of many sequels to a movie in which emerged years ago. To my surprise, the movie has still been able to keep its same basic theme plot. Michael Myers was a troubled boy who murdered everyone in his family except his mother and sister. He did not have to kill his mother because she killed herself after not being able to handle the pain her son had put her through. Throughout the movies Michael is searching for his sister, Laurie, and in the most recent sequel he is still attempting to do the same. On the other hand, I think producers know if they allow Michael's character to kill his sister the story some how will die and people will be less interested because this is what makes me continue watching the movie; the fact that the plot has varied, but not much.

I think we watch horror movies because of some type of need for that movie type. I mean some people feel that many horror movies aren't even scary, but they still watch them. Even if someone else has already informed you that the movie is not good; you just have to see it for yourself. To me its kind of like our basic needs; we must get a specific amount of social activity or its like (me) I will go crazy.

My favorite horror movies would have to be the ones that mix some humor into them too. Like Shawn of the Dead or Army of Darkness. Horror movies meant to be more realistic or just scare the piss out of you are not really my cup of tea. That being said I can still appreciate those people who do enjoy them.
Horror movies are a way to move that inner thrill seaker in all of us without actually risking anything. I think people are attracted to this the same way the are to super heros or any other bigger than life story. It is an escape and a safe way to take a risk.

I like horror films and books. My favorite would be Children of the Corn. That was like the first scare movie I ever watched. I still like to watch that movie now. The movie made me jump when I was a kid. I do not like all of The children of the corn movies.
I think people go to see horror movies to get scared. I think people need a different reality to go to. Horror movies give people laughs and screams. I think people that don’t go are because they do not want to get scared. They may not go because horror movies give them bad dreams.

I do love horror/suspense movies. Well, I always want to go see them after I see their previews until I actually get in the movie and then I want to leave. I think people love to watch them because they get your adrenaline pumping. Its a lot different then going to see a comedy or love story and I think people like different every once in a while. I dont ever really purchase scary movies, I think seeing them on the big screen makes them 100 times better. Seeing them in the movie theatre gets you a lot more into the movie because the audience is just as scared and shocked to see what happens as you are.

I recently saw the movie the Orphan and it was so scary! The first half of the movie was just suspenseful and kind of unbelievable, but about an hour or so into it everything changed. You realized that this movie could actually happen to someone and those are the scariest ones to me. When the movie is something that could happen to you it makes it that much more scary.

I am obsessed with scary movies!! They are my favorite genre of movies, I like them so much becasue of the thrill or the rush I get not knowing whats going to happen. My favorite scary movie is Urban Legend because it was the first one I ever watched, and because I am obsessed with urban legends. I remember the first time I watched Urban Legends I was totally freaked out the entire time. I think the best scary movies are ones that are believable, and Urban Legend was very believable to me. I actually watched it the other day, and still got freaked out at certain parts.
I think scary movies interest people bc of the rush they get. I love scary movies bc as crazy as it sounds I enjoy being freaked out! I cant wait to go see Panormal Activity when it comes out in Starkville bc I hear that its a scary movie that stays on your mind once you leave the theater. And that is the most amazng feeling from a scary movie, when you are STILL scared later that when you are trying to go to sleep.

Hello to everyone again. I myself also love Halloween. It's actually one of my favorite holidays.
I would have to say that my favorite horror movies are the Saw movies, and I can't wait until this Friday because Saw VI comes out at the theaters.
I think I like these the best because the reasoning behind it all is to not take your life for granted and to appreciate each day and your loved ones.
Most of the time I am watching these movies I have my eyes closed on a lot of parts. Even some of the parts of the movies almost make me nauseous...that's the funny thing.
It's fun to be scared by someone or something sometimes. That feel of your heart racing for a small amount of time! What a rush!
I do have to share something wild with all of you. When Saw III came out I went to see it at the movie theater. There was a teenage boy, and what looked to be his grandpa with him just a few isles in front of me. I heard this loud SPLAT...like someone vomiting. Sure enough it was him, the teenage boy. Then he fainted! After he awoke, his grandpa helped him out of the theater before the movie was over. I had no idea that some people respond that way to horror movies!
That was crazy!

I really enjoy scary movies, they are fun to watch and always keep you on the edge of your seat. One of my favorite scary movies is The Shining featuring Jack Nicholson. This movie is one of the all time classic scary movies. It is hard to believe that it is almost 30 years old. The Shining definitely keeps you guessing and really brings out the fear in people.

I do not care for horror movies. The ones that do not scare me to death are ridiculous, and I feel they are a waste of time. I'd rather watch something that has some substance, makes me laugh or shows other emotions.
